The Derby Historical Society is the Lower Naugatuck Valley's regional historical organization, celebrating the Valley as a large extended community. Founded on April 18, 1946, the Derby Historical Society is a 501 (c)(3) organization with members from all over the United States. The Derby Historical Society serves as the primary historical society for Derby and Ansonia and has a supporting role for the communities of Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton. Our area has historical beginnings dating to the first half of the 17th century. We are a recognized source for historical information by both print and televised media. A regional non-profit historical society, the Derby Historical Society serves the area composed of, and influenced by, the original Township of Derby in 1675*. Its purpose shall be to foster and promote the study, discussion, and interest in the history of this area; as well as to discover and collect any property or material which may preserve, establish and/or illustrate this history. It will function within the meaning of Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. The Society may consider acting as fiscal agent for other organizations with similar missions. The Society is multicultural and does not discriminate as to the race, creed or sexual orientation of its membership.
