The mission statement of the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library is to continue to act as the cultural and information center for the town of Naugatuck. We seek to offer quality library service through books (the collection includes more than 65,000 print and non-print materials for adults and children) and programming by providing a diversity of ideas, resources, and information. In addition to borrowing books, patrons may also borrow audiobooks, DVDs, museum passes, and downloadable books. They may also use the library's Wi-Fi; participate in book clubs, author events, free programs, and fundraisers; enjoy concerts, and view our art gallery that changes monthly. In addition, the library offers a social media presence through its website, Facebook page, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Twitter. The library is home to a public fax service, two photocopiers, 8 computers equipped with databases (iConn.org – a state library information source, Overdrive –downloadable e-books and audiobooks, Ancestry.com, and Learning Express Library – practice tests, courses and e-books) and internet access, an Optelec Clearview 500 Magnifier (low vision aid), and a microfilm reader. The Youth Services Department offers a collection of materials for youth from preschool through high school, 4 public computers, as well as a parent collection. Preschool story times, book clubs, school/scout tours, arts and crafts, art displays, movies, and game clubs are offered year round.
